Wi-Fi tracking for cities and public sites is the tool that detects mobile devices in the area through their identification with mac address, a unique code for each smartphone.
Even if mac address by itself does not identify the person, to have the total guarantee of anonymity, the detected mac addresses are treated with an hashing algorithm. As a consequence, we can surely say that the solution is privacy compliant.
From the processing of the detected signal it is possible to obtain information about the behavior of the visitors: the number of distinct individuals in the unit of time, the average time spent in selected areas, the return frequencies and the preferred visit paths.
